A day out to the Hafod Estate

Just north of us is the Hafod Estate which is recognised as one of the finest examples in Europe of a Picturesque landscape. Its most celebrated owner, Thomas Johnes (1748-1816) laid out its grounds in a manner suited to displaying its natural beauties in sympathy with the 'Picturesque principles'. Today it is a series of fabulous circular walks, varying in length along tracks around the estate.

We haven't been for a few months and thought, with the last leaves falling, we'd better go for an autumnal stroll. The tracks take you around the huge estate but we just did a couple of miles accross the 'wobbly bridge' and back to Hafod Church. Not having a head for heights, even I was brave enough to cross the bridge and pictured is John showing off and swinging to and fro on the bridge... wish he wouldn't!!
